Electric Vehicle Home & Public Charging Levels

Electric vehicles differ from gas-powered cars in that they need to be plugged in routinely to recharge the battery. You can either do this at home or on the go around Hamilton. There are three levels of EV charging, each of which offer different charging times:

• Level 1: Level 1 charging plugs into a standard three-prong outlet, the same outlets that power everything from your laptop to your microwave. • Level 2: Level 2 charging is the most common type used by EV drivers. If you plug in your EV to a Level 2 home charger before going to bed, it will typically be fully charged by the next morning.
• Level 3: Level 3 chargers are usually only found in public since they’re too powerful for home power grids. They use DC (direct current) fast charging capabilities, and many are free. If you have to pay for Level 3 charging, you can often do so through a mobile app or directly at the charging station. Level 3 chargers can often add up to 80% battery in as little as 30 minutes!
