Electric Vehicle Charging Levels

Mercedes-Benz EV Charging

As Mercedes-Benz begins to launch the all-electric EQ model line, you may be considering how to prepare for driving an EV. Take a moment to learn about the difference between a Level 1 EV charger, a Level 2 EV charger, and a Level 3 EV charger. Different EV Charging Levels

There are three primary electric vehicle charging levels available: Level 1 EV chargers, Level 2 EV chargers, and Level 3 EV chargers. There are also domestic chargers and public chargers. Take a moment to review general information about each of the EV charging levels:

  1. Level 1 EV Chargers – Domestic Outlet Home Charging: Opt for the standard Level 1 home charger, and you can simply use an adapter to plug your car into a three-pronged 110V/120V outlet in your Hamilton garage. While this method is easy and requires little to no prep, it will take around 24 hours or more to get a full charge.
  2. Level 2 EV Chargers – Installed Brand-Approved Domestic Charging: Step up to level 2, and you’ll be able to charge your vehicle in an afternoon. You’ll need to hire an electrician to check the compatibility of your power panel, install a 240V+ outlet, and have it wired directly to your power panel.
  3. Public Charging – Level 2 and 3 EV Chargers: Charge in public, and you’ll have access to Level 2 EV chargers and Level 3 DC fast chargers. A Level 2 public charger can replenish your battery at a rate of 12 to 80 miles per hour. Level 3 DC-Fast Chargers can replenish your battery at a rate of 3 to 20 miles per minute. You could go from 10% to 80% in under half an hour.
